First of all, as I grew up, pop culture had always accompanied me. I would listen to music in time of happy, unhappy and frustration. It is a memory I would never forget. Therefore, pop culture has long been a part of my life, and it is indeed good experience to be able to share my views with classmates in a class learning environment. As for the class of financial news, my first job since graduating was about financial news. After one year, I moved to TV and other publishing work. But after five years, I rejoined the financial news desk until returning to Shue Yan University as teacher. Therefore, my career and learning are all related heavily to financial journalism.Person Dr. LEE Ka Man, KamanIn the historic year of 1997 when Hong Kong was the centre of the world, Kaman graduated from Hong Kong Shue Yan University (Then College) and joined one of the largest local TV broadcasters as journalist. In her 10-plus years of exposure, she had assumed roles like Bureau Chief of Beijing News Center and news anchor in the main casts. Her footprint of news reporting extends beyond Asia including the United States, Canada, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, India, Pakistan and all the way to Nigeria. In 2010, Kaman had reorganised her doctoral thesis and worked with Oxford University Press to publish her first book of Journalism research- Portal to History-Hong Kong TV News. In the meantime, she also assumed a full time teaching role in her alma mater while continued to be a part time TV program host and columnist. In 2014, Kaman directed and filmed IMPACT, which was a self-financed documentary about how Hong Kong journalists covered the “Umbrella Revolution” and the inner struggle of the “post-80s” journalists brought by their personal values and code of ethics in reporting. Kaman had brought the documentary to more than 20 free viewing sessions in Hong Kong, US, Germany and Taiwan where discussion forum with scholars and studiers were held. In 2017, her second documentary, REAL TIME, showed the struggle of Hong Kong online news providers and covered the challenges of media. The documentary showed how media had evolved to reflect business considerations, with lots of news packages and features being measured against online hit rates and cost calculations. Being a firm believer that storytelling via visuals could generate great impact, Kaman spent a dozen years to research The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Ip Man Ving Tsun and interviewed his family and apprentices, resulting the development of THE LEGACY OF VING TSUN, a documentary about how this martial arts was being passed on for generations. Back in 2019, Kaman worked with The Lord Wilson Heritage Trust and invited Ip Chun and Ip Ching, sons of Ip Man, along with senior masters of Ving Tsun to join force for the project. In 2022, Kaman has organised the “Chinese Martial Arts and Sports Culture Communication” Academic Conference at Shue Yan University. The topics discussed during the conference included Chinese Martial Arts and Big Data, Chinese Martial Arts and Virtual World, E-sports and the Inheritance of Chinese Martial Arts, Chinese Martial Arts and Media Communications etc. The conference had managed to increase the awareness of the impact that Chinese martial arts brings to different communication channels. An episode (詠春拳在香港 Ving Tsun in HK) was created by RTHK for Kaman’s project and during the 1Hour 30 mins of program ( Free as the wind on March , 2024 ), Kaman was able to showcase how martial arts masters used AI to support and encourage young students to deepen their understanding and knowledge towards Chinese marital arts and traditional heritage. A digital archive database was also developed to preserve the traits of Intangible cultural heritage in Chinese martial arts. To complement the release of her findings, an exhibition was also held in Braemar Hill campus, which showcased authentic training tools of Chinese Martial Arts together with the precious historical documents from HK Ving Tsun and Tai Chi grandmasters. These exhibits helped education, IT, media & PR industry to change their stereotype about Chinese Martial Arts Masters being traditional and routine in their ways of teaching, and help the visitors to have a better understanding to the role of sports communication across levels including interpersonal, organizational, mass and international communication.Person Dr. LEUNG Ka Kuen, DennisDr. Dennis LEUNG is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Communication, Hong Kong Shue Yan University.
