Abstract
The age of convergence in contemporary China has been hailed by some observers as a golden opportunity for the flowering of civic engagement.¹ Within this notion of convergence, communication entails an unending stream of reports, responses, and rebuttals about critical, and perhaps criminal, failings within China—amounting to a genre we call herein “crisis communication.” For example, consider these three incidents from 2016.
