Hong Kong Shue Yan University “Centre of Interdisciplinary Research in Evidence-Based Practice” 2018 Lecture & Workshop Series – 1. Public Lecture: Applying evidence-based practice with meta-analysis; 2. Research Workshop: Establishing evidence-based practice with structural equation modelling. Speaker: Dr. Mike Cheung W. L. (Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Department of Psychology, National University of Singapore).

Dr. Kaman Lee from the Department of Journalism and Communication, hosted a guest lecture titled “Characteristics of Media Industry in HK” to students from Institute for International Journalism E. W. Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University.

The Department of Law and Business organised the Lex Week 2015-2016. “Civil Disobedience and Justice” have been chosen as the theme of this year’s Lex Week. The opening lecture on the first day was given in English by Hon Mr. Tong Ka Wah, Ronny S.C., Senior Counsel. On the second day, Dr. TU Kai, Professor of Tsinghua University, made his speech by Mandarin. On the third day, Prof. Mr. Justice HSU Tzong Li, Professor of National Taiwan University College of Law, Former Justice of the Constitutional Court, gave his speech on 「市民不服從與台灣的太陽花學運」. On the Fourth day, Dr. Wong Wai Lun, Max, Senior Media Worker, shared his experience on this topic. On the last day, Mr. Lam Kwok Fai, Osmond, Bar Council Member, gave a speech on “Rule of Law & Civil Disobedience”. It is not only a great honour for Hong Kong Shue Yan University, but also an enriching experience for our students.

The Department of Law and Business organised – Dr. Chung Chi-Yung Distinguished Lecture 2015-2016. Ms. Chang Chu-Fang, the president of Taipei Bar Association, delivered a speech titled “台灣家事事件實務議題：以離婚為中心之相關法律議題，以及繼承相關法律議題” which was very enlightening and students had learnt a lot about the family law in Taiwan.

The Department of Law and Business organised – “Dr. Chung Distinguished Lectures (2014 FALL)”. In memory of the honourable Dr. Chung Chi Yung, one of the founders of Hong Kong Shue Yan University and the first female judge in Chinese History, the Dr. Chung Distinguished Lectures have been chosen as the theme of this year’s Law Week so as to commemorate the outstanding contribution of Dr. Chung to higher education in Hong Kong. The opening lecture on the first day was given in English by Her Honour Judge Bebe Chu Pui-ying, Deputy High Court Judge and Principal Family Court Judge of the HKSAR on the topic: “Open Justice and Transparency in Family Proceedings”. On the second day, The Honourable Ms. Justice Wu Xiao-fang, the Supreme People’s Court Judge from the Mainland China made her speech on the topic: “Women and Law”. On the last day, The Honourable Ms. Justice Huang Lu-shing, a retired Presiding Justice of the Supreme Administrative Court of Taiwan gave her speech on the topic: “Female Judges in Taiwan: Past, Present and Future”. The Department of Law and Business is proud to have invited these distinguished female judges from three different jurisdictions in Greater China to join in the Dr. chung Distingusihed Lectures event. “It is not only a great honour for Hong Kong Shue Yan University, but also an enriching experience for the Shue Yan students.”

Centre of Interdisciplinary Research in Evidence Based Practice 2019 Visiting Scholar Lecture & Workshop Series on Evidence-Based Practice: Prof. Bart Rienties (Professor in Learning Analytics, Institute of Educational Technology, Open University UK) has been invited to stay at Shue Yan as a visiting scholar to conduct research activities. Hong Kong Shue Yan University 2017 Interdisciplinary Research Lecture Series – Public Lecture: Title – “Interdisciplinary Evidence Based Practice: What it is, Why it matters, What you need to know”. Speaker: Prof. Bonnie Spring Ph.D., ABPP, Professor of Preventive Medicine, Psychology, Psychiatry, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University.

“Centre of Interdisciplinary Research in Evidence Based Practice” 2018 Visiting Scholar Lecture & Workshop Series – Training Workshop: Interdisciplinary research in EBP and formation of research clusters and institutes. Speaker: Professor Catherine Tang is a Professor in the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts and Social Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She is also the Deputy Director of the Center for Family and Population Research and Co-chair of the Institutional Review Board at NUS.

The Department of Business Administration and SRS Consortium for Advanced Study in Cooperative Dynamic Games organised – “Nobel laureate John Nash Public Lecture”. Professor John F. Nash Jr., an internationally renowned game theorist and winner of the 1994 Nobel Prize in Economics, gave a public lecture on Cooperative Optimization at Hong Kong Shue Yan University. In the public lecture, attended by about 800 academics and guests, Professor Nash presented various refinements and improvements on his recent research on three person cooperative games.

Hong Kong Shue Yan University 2017 Interdisciplinary Research Lecture Series – ” A Lecture on Mediation”. Speaker: Professor Ned Aughterson, Head of School of Law, Charles Darwin University.

Guest Lecture of Department of History, Topic: The Making of Contemporary Iran. Speaker: Dr. Mehdi Fakheri (The Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was an Associate Professor and Acting Dean of the School of International Relations in Tehran. He also served several diplomatic missions in Geneva, Madrid and Mexico. Since 2015, he has been appointed as the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hong Kong and Macao.
