Abstract
The current study investigated the rationale behind the risky behaviors of non-heterosexual
females. The participants were 257 Hong Kong females, which included 148 Hong Kong
Chinese non-heterosexual females, 108 Hong Kong Chinese heterosexual females and 1
participant with a missing response in her sexual orientation. The invincibility, minority stress, and perceived general stress levels of the participants were measured in the study. The relationships among each of these factors were examined as well. The results showed that audacity/boldness, which was a subtype of invincibility, significantly predicted the level of minority stress, and therefore, predicted the level of the perceived general stress among
non-heterosexual females. This finding implied that increasing audacity/boldness acted as the stress coping strategy for these females. The recommendations included future studies on the area and counseling for the sexual minority group to make good use of and strengthen their level of audacity/boldness.
