Abstract
Hong Child is the recent topic that controversially discussed in Hong Kong, and most of the
commentaries tended to be negative. Also, some of the criticisms associated the phenomenon of Hong Child with the parenting styles. The present study is going to investigate the relationship between parenting styles and the development of Hong Child. Since there is no clear definition on Hong Child, pampered child is one of the concepts which were borrowed from Adlerian psychology to help as the characteristics are similar to each other. Thus, the concept of social interest is covered in the present study as well. Secondary students were invited to be the participants in the present study for completing the questionnaires on the parenting styles of their parents and their own social interest level. The results showed that parenting styles do have an effect on social interest level, but it would vary when other factors were taking into consideration.
