Abstract
After the Ming Dynasty, poetry anthologies of Li Panlong, the leader of the seven virtuous men, pre⁃ vailed in the academic world, but the controversy also prevailed. In fact, many criticisms were likely to originate from perspectives on two poetry selections of the Tang Dynasty compiled by Li: selected poems of the Tang Dynasty in Anthology of Ancient and Modern Poems and Anthology of Tang Poems. This article attempts to distinguish different aesthetic ideals reflected in these two works by analysis of the selecting of the five-character Tang Dynasty poems. And Anthology of Tang Poems, widely regarded as a pseudograph in the academic circles, automatically became a canon of Tang Dynasty poems in the Ming and Qing Dynasties for Li's name and the article "Preface toTang Poems Selection", which is different from Anthology of Ancient and Modern Poems. Many related discussions on Li Panlong's selected poems in the Ming and Qing Dynasties were actually based on Anthology of the Tang Dynasty Poetry, which was of significance as a model to be reckoned with for discussions on poetics and acceptance of the selected versions in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties.
