Abstract
The present study aims to identify the various factors predictive of burnout among Chinese elderly
voluntary workers in Hong Kong. A total of 123 (96 female & 27 male) elderly volunteers were
surveyed on their experience of volunteering, support from volunteer group, and burnout symptoms on two interviews separated with an one-year interval. Participants’ ages ranged from 55 to 91 with a mean of 70.29 (SD=7.03) and have been volunteering for an average of 8 years. Results of hierarchical regression analyses indicate that, after controlling for participants’ burnout symptoms at Time 1, participants’ poor perceived physical health was predictive.
