Abstract
It is normal that students faced challenge of further study path and future career development
during their life in high school and undergraduates. Some Hong Kong secondary school students have very few knowledge on how to set their goal on further study and career directions, which caused problems on career decision, incongruent career, and also their future path. Questionnaires was distributed to secondary school students in Hong Kong looking for their level of optimism, career maturity, and the effect of gender, parental expectation and criticism, and to see whether these factors would alter the degree of optimism affecting career maturity. The result would shed light on further directions in how to increase students’ optimism in facing their future and choosing their ultimate career path.
