Abstract
The article discusses the role that cultural values play in school dropouts in Hong Kong, China. The factors associated with a student's dropping out from school are discussed by carrying out research with five school dropouts. It is stated that the dropping out of a student is mostly attributed to rejection, rumors and betrayal by a friend. Findings of the research proved the importance of renegotiation of cultural values. It is suggested that schools should be more sensitive and responsive to the learning needs of every student.
