Abstract
Background: With the widespread application of artificial intelligence in the field of translation, translation students are presented with unprecedented opportunities and challenges. Their career choices are influenced not only by traditional market demands but also by technological advancements and disruptions. This research aims to explore how senior translation students, who are on the brink of graduation, make their career decisions in such a context, as well as their motivations and preparedness. Research Method: Drawing on the Social Cognitive Career and Motivation Theory, this study will employ qualitative research methods such as semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and narrative storytelling to delve into the perspectives, experiences, and expectations of the students. Additionally, a questionnaire survey will be conducted to gather broader data and insights. Research Questions: 1) How do senior translation students, on the verge of graduation, assess their skills and capabilities in the age of AI? 2)What are their anticipations and concerns regarding the future job market? 3) How do they form career interests and objectives based on their self-efficacy and outcome expectations? 4) How are they planning and preparing for their career paths? Contribution to Practice: This study offers invaluable insights for higher education institutions and employers, helping them understand how young individuals approaching the professional world perceive their future, and how they address the challenges and opportunities of the AI age. Furthermore, our research provides beneficial recommendations and directions for translation education and career guidance.
