Abstract
A journal review (Kam, 2008) from the Hong Kong Annual Digest of Statistics in 2006 reported that trauma was the fifth killer disease. People suffered from multiple traumas might limit their families and their psycho-social well-being. San Diego (2011) noted that fewer males than females in the Southeast Asian reported having psychological problems such as sexual abuse. Nam et. al. (2010) stated the gender difference on help-seeking behaviors in reality. As a result, the studies indicate a need for psychological intervention on patients with traumatic distress.
The present paper uses the case study approach to investigate the effectiveness of increased self-awareness and reduced emotional distress to achieve healthier psychological development through practicing a self-dialogue model derived from Recovery of Your Inner Child (1991) using both dominant and non-dominant hands. Six females aged from 18 to 67 years joined three treatment sessions, pre and posttest of the Symptom checklist-90-revised (SCL-90-R) (Chinese version), daily meditative assignments and undertook interviews.
All participants reported increased self-awareness and some reduced distress after practicing self-dialogue which might indicate their personal growth.
