Abstract
Chapter 4 contains a discussion on the biological bases of behavior. It starts by exploring the contribution of nature (genotype) and nurture (phenotype) to behavior, then proceeds to covering the building blocks of the nervous system. This is followed by an explanation of the mechanisms of the transmission of neuronal signals and the importance of neurotransmitters. For our bodies to maintain a state of homeostasis, the role of the endocrine system is further explained. An exploration of the nervous system, which comprises the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS), as well as the structure of the brain, completes the chapter.
