Abstract
The present paper calls for a reopening of the foreign language aptitude research. As such, it will first briefly review some of the developmental milestones of foreign language aptitude research in the past
several decades, which gives rise to possible lacunas in the field. Then the present paper will elaborate on four recent attempts by aptitude researchers to reconceptualize the foreign language aptitude construct, thus laying the ground for future endeavors to further develop the theory. The paper concludes by outlining some basic princip les guiding future research falling into line of inquiry.
