Abstract
This paper delves into the multifaceted college of today’s youth, examining their evolving sense of identity development, the influence of youth subcultures, the psychological functions at play, and the imperative service needs they will face in the future. The first section explores the shifting contours of youth identity development in contemporary society. With an emphasis on professionalism as a dominant theme, we investigate how young individuals today navigate their paths to adulthood, driven by aspirations and expectations that often transcend traditional boundaries. The second facet of our exploration delves into the role of youth subcultures. We scrutinize the profound impact of gaming culture, the detrimental influence of negative media 59 portrayals, and the sense of apprehension that some youths harbor when contemplating their futures. Furthermore, we dissect the emergence of egoism as a defining characteristic among certain segments of today’s youth population. The third dimension of this study investigates psychological functions at play within the youth demographic. Through an analysis of psychological mechanisms, we shed light on the coping strategies, stressors, and emotional landscapes that define their experiences. Finally, we project our findings to address the service needs of future youth populations. Recognizing the need for correct guidance and support, we propose the implementation of individual college student guidance sessions and group workshops aimed at instilling better future life values. These interventions aim to empower youth from university, with the tools and insights required to navigate an increasingly complex world while retaining their individuality.
