The Chinese Characters Test Level 1 in South Korea is based on the 3,500 Basic Vocabulary Table of Modern Chinese Characters. However, for the number and the forms of those characters, there are some differences among the tables in different Chinese Characters Testing Associations. Those differences not only carry a burden for the test-takers,but also influenced the standardization of the Chinese characters. In this article,we analyze three 3,500 vocabulary tables from the 3 most influential testing associations. We point out their differences and the reasons for the differences, and also put forward some proposals to improve the test. The article will provide some reference materials for the standardization of the test and the modern Chinese characters used in Korean language as well as a comparison of Chinese characters in China and South Korea.
