Funding Constructing an Interdisciplinary Research Platform at Hong Kong Shue Yan UniversityCurrently, there are twelve research centres at HKSYU, attached to various academic departments. They operate independently and there is very little in the way of interdisciplinary collaboration. The benefits of interdisciplinary collaboration have been established in various fields such as social sciences and healthcare, adolescent health and development, investment, project management and knowledge production.
We have identified three areas common to all disciplines: Brain-Based Teaching and Learning, Decision-Making, and Negotiation and Persuasion, and intend to build an interdisciplinary research platform around these areas.
The project will commence with a combined package of two public lectures, three workshops and three tutorials for each of the three areas, delivered over twelve months, or a total of 36 months. The public lectures and workshops will be delivered by leading international scholars and researchers, and the tutorials conducted by Hong Kong-based senior academics.
Five long-term outcomes are anticipated. First, the resources currently available for the individual research centres will be pooled to provide greater opportunities for researchers. Second, the interdisciplinary research platform will increase the potential for research. Third, the intellectual stimulation resulting from the interdisciplinary interaction will enhance both the quality and quantity of research at HKSYU. Fourth, collaboration will create a niche for HKSYU in the three identified areas of academic research. Last, it is certain that such a platform will be of significant benefit in both teaching and learning.Principal Investigator:Dr. HU Fai ChungGrant Awarding Body:Research Grants CouncilAmount Awarded:$6,746,671Status:CompletedFunding An exploratory study of the positive side of work-family dynamics = 工作與家庭正面互動之探索性研究Work-family balance is an important concern among employees, human resources management, and psychologists. During the past decade, researchers began to place more emphasis on the positive side by investigating work-family enrichment. The construct of work-family enrichment refers to the experience of enhancement through a positive spillover from one domain to another domain (Carlson, Kacmar, Wayne, & Grzywacz, 2006). The spillover is bidirectional, meaning that the enhancement can be transferred from the work domain to the family domain, or from the family domain to the work domain. The study aims to explore the positive impact of different types of social support on work-family enrichment. In particular, it aims to investigate the competitive views of whether or not there will be a positive spillover effect in having a domain-specific type of social support. The findings will enable researchers to move forward in developing more relevant models to address the challenges in work-family balance.Principal Investigator:Dr. CHIO Hin Man, JasmineGrant Awarding Body:Research Grants CouncilAmount Awarded:$525,964Status:Completed
