Chapter 18 looks at the future of psychology and, in particular, the future of Asian psychology. It begins with an examination of the major contributions and advancements currently made by Asian psychology, and attempts to provide a trajectory of its future development. Specifically, the chapter argues that although the development of Asian psychology has been based on Western theoretical models and constructs up to the present, in recent decades the indigenous route toward the study of Asian psychology has been increasingly explored. Consequently, applied aspects of Asian psychology are beginning to earn a place in world psychology, and we are witnessing more sophistication in indigenous models of psychotherapy. Some recent developments, such as the emphasis on evidence-based practice, early identification and intervention, the response to intervention model, technology-assisted research and therapies, as well as interdisciplinary collaborations, are also highlighted. It is envisioned that Asian psychology will one day become an example of the successful integration of the West with the East.en_US
