In this chapter, we summarise the key themes presented in the preceding chapters. We highlight some of the ways in which societies and schools in East and Southeast Asia are changing, and how the needs of young people are changing as a result. School counsellors work at the intersection of a complex and dynamic social ecology of systems and stakeholders and so are at the forefront of these changes, which provide many challenges to the practice and development of school counselling. We highlight some specific contemporary challenges faced by counsellors as they seek to work effectively in this fast-moving environment. School counsellors are rising to these challenges in different ways across the region, and this edited volume gives a sense of the breadth of change taking place in the field. We consider some key themes in the development of school counselling in the region and suggest some directions for future research.en_US
