Advanced technology-assisted mobility assessment tools offer a promising solution to the inadequate primary screening. This study aims to explore physiotherapists’ clinical experience and attitudes towards technology-assisted mobility assessment tools, providing empirically grounded design insights for digital care designers. An interview was used to collect data from 20 physiotherapists. Content and descriptive analyses were used to extract physiotherapists’ perspectives and attitudes on mobility assessment and technology-assisted tools. The results show that gait spatio-temporal parameters, balance control, and muscle control performance were considered the most critical assessments for evaluating older adults’ mobility. Most of the participating physiotherapists (n = 16) had positive attitudes towards technology-assisted mobility assessment tools, whereas a smaller proportion (n = 4) felt that these tools increased workload due to low ease of use. Physical therapists suggested that, with the help of technology-assisted tools, the traditional mobility assessment interval can be shortened to approximately ten weeks. However, they also expressed concerns about older adults’ safety, exercise standardization, and the accuracy of feedback when using these tools. Therefore, they recommended a human-computer collaboration ratio of 7:3, indicating that humans should retain the leading role in technology-assisted tools. The findings highlight the clinical functionality and patient-centered nature of technology-assisted tools, aligning physiotherapists’ workflows and safeguarding older adults’ safety.
