Generally, local and non-local visitors have some commonground, such as the desire to escape from their reality and become relaxed and immersedina fun and enjoyable theme park environment. In the present study, we aimtoexplore the review genre, generic stages and language identities of local andnonlocal visitors through an analysis of online customer reviews of Ocean ParkHongKong. An investigation into feedback from visitors was conducted, with reviewssourced from online platforms, focusing mainly on the similarities and differencesbetween local and non-local visitors on the subjects of their identities. The collecteddata were based on authentic reviews collected for Ocean Park Hong Kong gatheredfrom online travel guide platforms. In this study, we use the systemic functional linguistics (SFL) framework, genre and generic stages analysis as systems of interpersonal meaning in order to analyse the language identities and structureof the reviews. In total, 1057 reviews, made from 2012 to 2024 and comprising100,558 words, were examined. The results suggested that most of the local visitorreviews contain the four stages: purpose, gathering information, evaluationandsummarization, in which the opening and closing stages are missing. Non-local visitors tend to structure their reviews in all six stages: opening, purpose, gatheringinformation, evaluation, summarization, and closing. However, they have thingsincommon, the majority of them make recommendations by the end of the reviews. Through this study, we hope to contribute to both theoretical and practical aspects, such as providing understanding of the lexicogrammatical realizations andunderlying reasons for different reviews, as well as providing useful insights for the theme park tourism industry to enhance tourist experiences.enAnalysis of social media reviews: A focus on Ocean Park Hong KongConference Paper
