Of the 134 samples, there were 86 participants reported having dreams with erotic elements. Participants who reported having or not having erotic dreams did not differ in sexual repression level. Among the types of sexual interactions, sexual intercourse was found to be the most common sexual interactions that appeared in sex dreams in the current sample. Significantly higher proportion of male participants reported having dreams about sexual intercourse and naked scenarios while rape dreams were exclusively reported by female participants. Three rape dreams out of four contained incestuous behavior and theme about Electra complex; this indicates that dreams sexual motives which the dreamer might not be aware during daytime would emerge during dreaming. Interestingly, this study confirms that object-choices in dreams follow some specific rules. Correspond to Freud’s theory, sex dreams function as a safety valve and allow the expression of instinctual sexual wishes, however, the contemporary sex symbols were only reported by four participants, rejecting the hypothesis that they serve as a rule substituting for manifest sexual materials in dreams. A compensatory relationship between dream content and sexual repression was slightly supported by few rape dreams. Dreams serve as a fulfillment of wish and reflection of one’s waking concerns were also evident.engSex (Psychology).Sexual repression and sexual expressions in dreamThesis
