The relationship between schizotypy and psychopathy: Empathy and selfishness as the mediators. The present study examined whether empathy and selfishness mediated the schizotypy-psychopathy relationship. Forty-six participants, between 12 and 43 years of age completed a behavioural and neurocognitive questionnaire. All participants were assessed by Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire-Brief, Selfishness Questionnaire, Cognitive, Affective, and Somatic Empathy Scale, and Dirty Dozen Scale. Total scores are computed for the data analysis in the present study. Correlational and mediation analyses were performed. As hypothesized, schizotypy was positively correlated with psychopathy. Selfishness was positively correlated to both schizotypy and psychopathy while empathy was negatively correlated with both of them. After controlling for gender, selfishness and empathy- affective scores significantly mediated the relationship between schizotypy (disorganised) and psychopathy respectively. These pilot findings suggest that empathy and selfishness might be mediators explaining the relationship between schizotypy and psychopathy. These have important clinical implications. For instance, intervention targeting empathy enhancement and prosociality might help reduce both schizotypal and psychopathic traits in the society.enThe relationship between schizotypy and psychopathy: Empathy and selfishness as the mediatorsConference Paper
