Chapter 9 explores the development of sexual orientation and gender roles within the frameworks of psychodynamic, cognitive-developmental, gender-schema, and social learning theories. Furthermore, it examines concepts such as gender stereotyping, academic differences between genders, gender inequality, and variations in the treatment of intimate relationships between genders. Specific attention is given to the psychological causes and consequences of inequality. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the origins of sexual orientation and the stress faced by sexual minorities.en_US
